Depot Dash hazards explained: fragile parcels, express lanes and multi-way junctions
The later Depot Dash chapters stop being about where parcels go and start being about which routes are allowed. A breakdown of every hazard, what it constrains, and how to plan around it.
Depot Dash begins with matching parcel types to exits. Electronic parcels go to the electronic exit, toy parcels go to the toy exit, and fragile parcels go to the fragile exit. Later layouts add lane properties that change which route best serves each parcel.
This guide covers each hazard the campaign introduces, what it actually constrains, and how it changes your planning order. If you are still on the fundamentals, start with the three-star guide, this one assumes you already use the queue to plan ahead.
Parcel types and matching exits
Every parcel has one correct destination. Electronic, toy, and fragile parcels each need to reach the exit marked for that type. Reading the upcoming queue gives you time to set the route before each box reaches a junction.
Fragile parcels add a route restriction: an express lane destroys them. Plan their safe path first, then fit electronic and toy parcels around it. Those regular parcels can travel over express or rusty lanes safely.
Express and rusty lanes
Express lanes move compatible parcels faster and can directly improve the speed star. Use them for electronic and toy parcels when the faster route does not force extra switches or interfere with an upcoming fragile parcel.
Rusty lanes move parcels more slowly. That delay can be useful for the switches star. Sending a regular parcel across a rusty lane may create enough spacing for other parcels to pass a junction under one setting, reducing how often you need to change it.
The fastest-looking path for one parcel may therefore weaken the full run. Read several entries in the queue, compare their junction timings, and choose express or rusty lanes according to the star target and the spacing the whole sequence needs.
Multi-way junctions
A two-way junction is a binary: this path or that one. A multi-way junction is a selection, and that changes the cost structure of a mistake.
With two-way junctions, a wrongly-set junction is one flip from correct. With multi-way junctions, the setting you need may be several steps from the setting you have, and every step is a switch that the efficiency star counts. Flipping through options to find the right one is expensive in a way it never was in Chapter 1.
Two adjustments follow:
- Decide before you touch it. With a binary junction, experimenting costs at most one wasted flip. With a multi-way junction, experimenting can cost several. Work out the setting you want from the queue, then move to it directly.
- Prefer settings that serve runs of parcels. The efficiency penalty for changing a multi-way junction is higher, so the payoff for finding a setting that correctly routes several consecutive parcels is correspondingly higher. Batching stops being a nice optimisation and becomes the primary strategy.
Tighter mistake limits
The last hazard is not a floor element at all. As the campaign progresses, the number of misroutes a level tolerates drops, and in the later Depot Mastery Bundle chapters it drops sharply.
This interacts with everything above. When you had a generous mistake budget, a fragile parcel lost to an express lane was a setback. When the budget is one or two, it ends the shift. The effect is that hazard planning stops being an optimisation for the accuracy star and becomes the condition for clearing the level at all.
The practical response is to stop treating the mistake limit as a resource to spend. Plan as though it were zero. Runs that budget for mistakes tend to find them.
None of this is random
Worth repeating, because hazards make levels feel like they might be: there is no luck in Depot Dash. The queue is visible, the layout is fixed, lane properties do not move, and every level is tested to be solvable. A fragile parcel destroyed in an express lane was routed there by a decision you can identify and change.
That is the whole reason the retry loop works. You are never hoping for a kinder queue, you already saw the queue. You are looking for the ordering of switches that satisfies every constraint at once, and it exists.
