The idea behind Splishi Splashi

Splishi Splashi started from one feeling: the panic of being the smallest thing in the water. Most survival arcade games chase you from behind. Here the threat is everywhere, predators close in from the top, the bottom, and both sides, so the game rewards spatial awareness under pressure. Every dodge has to account for the whole tank.

The control scheme is the heart of it. Steering is analogue and proportional: the fish follows your pointer, so a small movement is a gentle curve and a big movement is a hard bank. That gives every near-miss a hand-crafted feel, you are the one deciding exactly how tight to cut a corner, and a clean escape feels earned. The retro-styled water and chunky sprites keep the screen readable even when it fills up with hungry neighbours.

Speed is the reward loop. Orange and blue orbs push your top speed higher, which feels great but also raises the stakes: the faster you go, the less time you have to read the next threat. That tension between “grab the orb” and “stay safe” is what a good run is made of.

In your browser, Splishi Splashi is free with no download or account. Runs and achievements are saved locally on the device you are using. There is no global web leaderboard or cloud save.

On Android, Splishi Splashi is available on Google Play under the Kimajo Games developer profile. Browser data stays separate and does not sync to the app.

Strategy

Watch the whole screen and keep track of open water ahead. Watch out for pesky blow fish that will slow you down and avoid hitting islands.

Use speed deliberately. Chaining orange and blue orbs to hit max speed is powerful, but full speed in a crowded area is how runs end. Build up speed to catch bonuses off the ideal track. Jumping and perfect dives gives you a speed boost as well.

Finally, let the 20 achievements shape how you play. Because many of them reward unusual styles, surviving a certain way, reaching a threshold, or taking a risk, hunting them naturally teaches you the game’s edges and turns a single high-score chase into a set of smaller goals.

How the steering actually works

Understanding the proportional control model makes the difficulty easier to read.

Steering is proportional, not directional. Hold the button (or a finger) and the fish follows your pointer: a small movement is a gentle curve, a large one is a hard bank, and every value in between is available. This is not a four-direction scheme where “up” is a state you are either in or not.

The consequence is that the size of your input is a decision. An overshooting dodge used too much input. A dodge that clipped a predator was too small. Once you account for both magnitude and direction, near-misses become deliberate, which is exactly the intent. A four-direction scheme would make that decision for you.

Speed reduces your reaction margin. At higher top speed you cover more distance per unit of reaction time, and proportional steering turns the same pointer movement into a much larger bank. Speed trades reaction margin for reward potential. Build it in open water, shed it before traffic.

Common mistakes

• Watching the predator behind you. The threat is genuinely everywhere, top, bottom, both sides, so tracking the chaser tells you where danger was. Track open water instead; that is the question whose answer tells you where to point.
• Steering with large inputs by default. Most gaps need a much smaller movement than instinct suggests. The tightest dodges use the bottom of the proportional range.
• Taking every orb. Chaining orange and blue orbs to max speed feels excellent and is how good runs end, because full speed through a crowded screen leaves no margin for a correction.
• Treating a perfect dive as pure upside. Jumps and perfect dives grant a speed boost, so a well-executed dive that launches you into a crowd is a mistake with good technique in it.

Will it run on my device?

Splishi Splashi is a 2D browser build with deliberately chunky retro sprites, so it is undemanding, it runs on older laptops, budget phones, and tablets without a discrete GPU.

It plays in landscape. On a phone you will want to rotate; the game handles the smaller screen fine, and the readable art style is a real advantage there, since the tank stays legible even when it fills up with hungry neighbours.

Controls are identical across mouse and touch, hold and move up or down. If nothing responds to input, the usual culprit is a browser extension intercepting pointer events; try a private window.
